TO HEAVEN WITH IT!

With this cry as “semanasantero” Sevilla raises his virgins in the processions, in 2012 lifted the Torre Pelli amid controversy. La Torre Pelli reached in mid-July 2012 the height of the Alamillo Bridge, snatching the highest height of the Seville sky.

The highest historic landmark of Seville is the Giralda. The whole complex is called Catedral de Santa María from the city of Seville. The lower two thirds date from the late 12th century, from the Almohad period. The upper third of the tower is an added finish from the Christian era to house the bells. It has held supremacy for centuries with its 97,5 m (101 m including giraldillo), still the tallest tower in Spain.

Year 1992 (really was crowned in the 1991) the new roof of Seville was the Alamillo Bridge with a height of 141.25 m. But from 2012 the Pelli Tower exceeds that height, rising to the 180.5 m elevation that it reached in mid-July 2012 stealing the spotlight from heaven to Puente del Alamillo.

The work of the Torre Pelli was carried out by the construction company FCC and complex construction shall continue in the future to a new shopping center, which will give the area a great commercial wealth.

The Puente del Alamillo, designed by Santiago Calatrava, was built to allow access to the island of La Cartuja where EXPO took place ' 92. The first project consisted of two equal bridges, staring everyone in your opposite direction but "politically motivated and technical justifications not the original project was conducted. There was a feud between the Ministry and the Board, Contrary to what everyone thinks, since it is believed that the main reason was economic ", words of Joint Venture Manager (Temporary Business) Puente del Alamillo, Ángel Luis Ochoa Fernández. Finally on February 29, 92 The Paso del Alamillo was inaugurated and it was probably most admired by outsiders. Such is the magnitude of this that in the MOMA in New York the model of the same and the figure of the same are exhibited in the Museum of Science in Munich. In contrast, the Cartuja Viaduct, which is part of the Paso del Alamillo work, remains a great unknown for the Sevillian in general., ignoring their existence.

An unknown heritage

The design of the pylon kick Puente del Alamillo was modified in the construction phase by Santiago Calatrava to allow the existence of a viewpoint. To provide the viewpoint with access, a staircase was designed inside and the spaces were reserved for a future exterior panoramic elevator. 20 years have passed since then and the possibility of contemplating Seville is only for a few.
